Lanie Pearce came to the Center for Really Neat Research on August 8, 1998. She
is a 7 year old girl with Cerebral Palsy from Long Island. Her parents were
seeking help in the form of finding a way for Lanie to communicate with
others. In just a few hours, the widgiteers, power nerds, and cyber elves
at CRNR were able to get Lanie to do things she has never been able to do before.
By the end of the one-time session, Lanie could drive her motorized wheelchair
around the room completely by herself, play commercially available computer games,
and create text using an on-screen keyboard.
