An Overview of The Pulsar Project
The performance of information technologies in the modern age has far
surpassed our wildest dreams, however, the interface, or operational
connection between the human and the computer is greatly limited due to
the "traditional" keyboard and mouse.
The Pulsar Project is pushing these boundaries:
Just Imagine:
- you are paralyzed and can move
nothing but your face?[
TNG-3/NeatTools]
- you have some form of cognitive
impairment/mental retardation?[Smart
Desk]
- you are an expert (e.g., medical)
and knew you were not making optimal use of your
knowledge or that of other experts?
With current interfaces, such
exceptional users are either cut off, or severely limited in
their freedom of activity. PULSAR is a project to rethink
the needs of the exceptional computer user and invent
perceptually and expressionally
optimal interfaces for dynamically interacting with
information. Our goals
are...
make the disabled user whole by connecting them to informatic systems which
could make the difference between a greater and lesser
quality of life.
give the health care
professional
greater technological power in the gathering of patient data
and provision of quality & time-critical care.
