Early in January of 2000 a small group of people descended on the Idea
Lab.
These people with majors ranging from Illustration to Geography had come
together to create an incredible mural. Armed only with paintbrushes and
lured by the promise of free pizza and brownies, the group went to work
on the freshly painted white walls of the Idea Lab.
The amount that was accomplished in just one day was amazing but more
amazing was the fact that people kept returning. For the next week the
doorbell rang constantly and members of the small group would sneak back
in the paint just a little bit more and to show the Idea Lab to friends.
The mural grew exponentially and continues to do so.
The mural continues to grow thanks to the contributions of Heather Bailes,
Sam Baker, Michelle Blau, Alex Delgado, Hilary Egan, Ellen Ellis, Kristy
Fritts, Sarah Leadbeater and Jen Liebeskind.
Animals of all types were included in this mural, regardless of their
'normal' habitat. Animals from such diverse environments as the artic, the
forest, the rainforest, the plains, and the swamp reside side by side.
