Lance's Visits #3 & 4 Visit #2 July 27, 1999 Goals: Test table top joystick with goal post, table top jellybean switch and lever switch with right arm motion and lever switch with left head motion. Session: This session clarified fine motor ability with Lance's right hand/arm. Table top jellybean switch needs to be raised and angled to be accessible. Lever switch will be positioned to the right of his right hand with the switch facing upward. We were so caught up in Lance's success with the table top clicks that we didn't have time to test the head click. Lance's joystick motion is stronger horizontally than it is vertically. Alter the on-screen keyboard to facilitate typing. Referring to Ayal Sherman's tape, Lance would like to try clicks attached to glasses. Outcome: Lower and lessen the angle of the jellybean switch. Lower the joystick to the same height as Lance's wheelchair joystick. Next session test head click. Create a new on-screen keyboard to 2 or three rows. Use early Ayal Sherman facial click widgets to test facial motion with Lance. Visit #1 June 11, 1999 Goals: To meet Lance and learn about his interests, personal goals and abilities. Session: This was our first time meeting Lance. Lance has a great deal of mobility and excellent communication skills that facilitated the evaluation process. We tried a pressure sensor in his right hand and a joystick. Outcome: Create a joystick that mimicks his wheelchair joystick, create left and right mouse clicks making use of his right hand, left head turn motion. |
